in summer Miagrammopes orientalis (Uloboridae) [Japanese name : maneki-gumo]
It looks like a dead branch that is attached to a tree. The spider is imitating a dead branch. Then spiders make strands of silk that are divided into 3-4 lines on the branch of a tree. The spiders' legs reach out to the end of the strands. The length is 12-15 mm. It is found on four main islands in Japan - namely, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. |
